It started with one person – a friend and personal training client – who wanted to break old patterns and focus on well-being. She needed to learn healthy ways to deal with stress and anxiety. She wanted to lose weight, sleep better, and overcome burnout.
It started with a 5-day wellness retreat: we worked out each day; ate clean, nourishing foods; went to the spa; cut out alcohol and sugar; and spent time looking at why we do what we do.
For that one person and on that five-day wellness retreat, there was total transformation. She’s still working on healthy practices, and far more fulfilled, energized, and motivated than she was a year ago. Each retreat with Allium Awake is a chance to explore new wellness practices. This is an invitation to overcome exhaustion, reinvigorate your passions, reduce anxiety, and experience renewal and restoration.

- 2008-2016, group fitness instructor for Lifetime Athletic Club
- 2005, NASM-certified personal trainer
In 2013, I was striving to meet the constant demands of “more,” striving towards the identity of someone I thought would be seen as “successful.” I obtained a 4-year undergraduate degree in three years and worked full-time during law school as a personal trainer. After landing a job at a small law firm, I continued on as a part-time personal trainer, added two classes each week as a spin instructor, and worked days, nights, and weekends. I kept up friendships, relationships, travel, workouts, and a social life, multi-tasking and constantly on the move. But below my upbeat exterior, I was unhappy, chronically fatigued, stressed and anxious, and often ill. My adrenal system was on the verge of giving out. Miserable inside, I had nothing left to give. Imagining every phone call was another person needing something of me, I permanently turned my phone ringer off.
Depleted and in desperate need of self-care, I needed to slow down, rest, and re-examine my priorities; I needed self-awareness. This meant taking a close look at how I was living my life and why, and it was then that I decided to seek help and healing. The various mini-traumas in my life had finally triggered self-transformation.
Where do you start when you want to make a change? I started doing more yoga. I worked with therapists, energy healers, body workers, and other alternative medicine practitioners. I started meditating. Not all at once, but over time. I practiced watching my thoughts and actions as an observer would. I also tried to keep the voice in my head a kind one. Figuring out how to feel better changed my life, and I’d like to pass this blueprint to you.
Now, I believe we attract what we need. We are energetic beings, made of infinite intelligence. Many of us seek healing after challenging experiences; others seek personal growth. On each retreat, we all contribute what we’ve accomplished and learned. We’re in the right place at the right time to be part of a more aware humanity.
What does this look like on retreat? Each retreat is different. Most involve restful time in nature and community “give back.” Almost all retreats involve yoga and meditation. Retreats may involve music, bodywork, hiking, and cultural excursions. Personal training sessions, spa experiences, and nutrition coaching are also available. Our purpose is to Be Well & Do Good; we select destinations that help us detox and de-stress. In a casual yet luxurious atmosphere, guests get personal attention and gentle encouragement supported by the discipline of a new routine. Together we restore balance, activate self-love, increase self-awareness, and explore new wellness practices.
