Why Yoga?
Yoga means “to yoke,” and is often interpreted as “union.” The union of what? Some say mind, body, soul. Others call it union of breath and movement. We think it’s that and more: we believe it’s the union of the various practices that help us “live well”: self-love, exercise, sleep, compassion, beauty, meditation, clean eating, etc… There are so many paths – so many different ways we can enhance our lives. Yoga is just one path that can help us develop self-awareness, attain inner peace, and lead fulfilling lives. Yoga is a lifestyle.
The eight limbs of yoga refer to the eight-fold path that offers guidelines for a meaningful and purposeful life: 1) ethical standards, 2) self-disciplines and spiritual observances, 3) the postures practiced in yoga, 4) breath, 5) sensory transcendence, 6) concentration, 7) meditation, and 8) states of profound interconnectedness. To Allium Awake, this means the unity of our thoughts, words, and actions. It means uniting our innate intelligence and our body’s essential genius to create and amplify our physical and mental space. It means connection, and the conversation between strength and flexibility within our muscles and our mind. This transformation gives us a potent yet controlled fluidity, both on and off our yoga mats.
